Tonight

Erin Hart Show

Join Erin as she fills in for NY Vinnie on 710 KIRO tonight from 6 to 9pm (pst).

Living Voices performs "Journey from the Dust" to remind why we are grateful and what we have survived. Then take a trip via a "Native Vision" and explore Indian boarding schools and code talkers through the experience of the Navajo on Friday. (I am affiliated with the non-profit, Living Voices, enjoy!)

Then we talk about all the scandals fit to talk about--Bush isn't only faking a huge grimace at the news: Michael Scanlon indicted; the Iraqis formally request us out; fewer and fewer people trust this administration about anything! The truth is setting us free.

And Martha G. (or is it Marty) entertainment editor at BartCop.com visits on Sunday night with loads of links and hot blogs.

Audio streams live - 710KIRO.com.

Bruce Reed: America's Least Wanted: Another Bush earns his place on a Rushmore for the rejected (slate.com)
If you look back over the last three decades of modern politics, Republicans have usually prospered by failing to fix the problems they rail against: crime, welfare, big government, security. By contrast, whenever Democrats have fixed those problems, we've made the wedge issues go away and left conservatives sputtering for relevance. The same is true with Iraq, and with the broader war on terrorism: The sooner we can show America how to start winning again, the sooner Democrats will start winning again.

Paul Krugman: Time to Leave (The New York Times; Posted on truthout.org)
Not long ago wise heads offered some advice to those of us who had argued since 2003 that the Iraq war was sold on false pretenses: give it up. The 2004 election, they said, showed that we would never convince the American people. They suggested that we stop talking about how we got into Iraq and focus instead on what to do next.

Julia Scheeres: Completely. It took me years to realize that you don't need to be Christian to be a good moral person. Now I know so many people who are atheist, or areligious, or they're Buddhists, or whatever, and they're much more moral than the Christians that I grew up with who go to church twice on Sunday and catechism and then come out and beat their children.
BuzzFlash: To be fair, we all know there are many righteous Christians.
Julia Scheeres: Oh, of course.

Purple Gene Reviews

'Ice Harvest'

Purple Gene's review of the movie "Ice Harvest" (2005)    [view trailer]
Directed by Harold Ramis:

It's Christmas Eve in Wichita, Kansas and Charlie just stole 2.2 million dollars……

"Ho fuckin' Ho Hum !"

I just went and wasted 88 minutes of my precious life with my daughter and my wife….and I want it back !!!!!

We shoulda left early and asked for our money back !

We shoulda thrown shit at the screen and hissed !

But instead we sat through an 88 minute MESS……mired in mindless dialogue and an amazing lack of action and continuity!

"Ice Harvest" is Luke warm and Fallow !

Ok Ok so I happen to know Harold Ramis (Director)! So what ! This movie ain't no "Groundhog Day" (1993) and it's certainly not "Analyze This" (1999)!

And John Cusack (Charlie) was way better in "The Grifters" (19900 and "Grosse Pointe Blank" (1997)!

And Billy Bob Thornton (Vic) was way better in "Bad Santa" (1998) and "A Simple Plan" (1998)!

And Connie Nielson (Renata) was way better in "Colletti Bianchi" (1988) and "Vacanze di Natale" (1991)...Huh?

Spoiler Alert !

Six people get shot and killed…….including the "Girl" ……2 boring strippers pole dance……1 projectile vomiting scene…….1 thumb gets cut off…..2 bare ass cheeks shake it up…1 not-so-dead body in a trunk……1 dumb ass cop…….1 boring same ex-wife of 2 characters (Sarabeth….Who played her role????? It doesn't say in the credits!)….2 shotgun shells full of rock salt……everybody dies except Charlie and his ex wife's present husband Pete (Oliver Platt)…..Bill (Randy Quaid) gets his face peppered with shot……Charlie gets away with all the cash and he takes his drunk pal Pete (saving him from his awful marriage to Charlie's EX) !

Purple Gene gives "Ice Harvest" 2 tawdry sagging old stripper titties out of 10 for being a predictable and worn out Act !

Rabies Radio - LA Style

Ken & John

Supporters of Stanley "Tookie" Williams, the street gang leader and convicted killer facing execution in three weeks, have filed a federal complaint against a Los Angeles radio station for a "Tookie Must Die" campaign by two talk-show hosts.

The Federal Communications Commission complaint, dated Tuesday, charges "racist and inflammatory statements" by KFI-AM talk-show hosts John Kobylt and Ken Chiampou and comes amid an escalating political battle over Williams, who has been embraced by death-penalty activists and some celebrities.

Kobylt shrugged off the FCC complaint. He said the "Tookie Must Die" hour was in response to what he sees as a dishonest campaign on Williams' behalf by anti- death penalty activists and a failure by the media to report the story accurately.

"(The complaint) is a complete waste of time because the FCC doesn't regulate these kinds of things," Kobylt told Reuters. "They might as well complain to the Animal Control Board."

Hong Kong Park

Disney

More than a million people visited Disney's newest theme park in Hong Kong, company bosses said, despite reports that attendances had been way below expectations.

A statement from the company's California headquarters hailed the park a success after notching up its first 100 days since opening in September.

The statement comes days after a report in the South China Morning Post newspaper that the park was operating at well below half its 30,000 daily capacity.

In an investigation, four reporters counted customers entering the park and found only 12,972 people visited on Sunday November 13 and 11,399 on Wednesday November 16.

Furnish - John

Elton John says he and his partner David Furnish plan a small private ceremony to seal their civil partnership under new legislation offering gays many of the legal protections available to married heterosexuals.

"It'll be a very small family affair and then in the evening there'll be a soiree somewhere, which we have yet to work out," John was quoted as saying in an interview with Attitude magazine released Thursday.

"But the ceremony itself will be David's parents and my parents and the two of us. They'll be our witnesses. That's the way we want to do it. They've been so fantastic to us and so supportive. Out of respect for their support, we want to just keep it small. Not to make a ballyhoo of the ceremony," John was quoted as saying.

The ceremony will be held on Dec. 21, the effective date of the legislation creating civil partnerships.

Japan's Karakuri ningyou, or mechanical doll, shows a letter of 'happiness' during a demonstration at Tokyo's Edo-Tokyo Museum Thursday, Nov. 24, 2005. By soaking a brush into black ink contrainer on the table, the 'calligraphy' doll, created about 160 years ago by Hisashige Tanaka, the founder of Japan's electronics giant Toshiba Corp., can writes four Chinese characters as 'pine,' 'bamboo,' 'plum,' and 'happiness' in a flawless movement and the board will turn to show the work to people when it is done. The doll, that was fully repaired following its return to Japan last year after being kept by a collector in the United States for 150 years, will be shown to the public at the museum with some 200 other similar dolls early next year. To write the four different letters, the device underneath the doll needs to be changed.

Vietnam To Charge

Gary Glitter

Charges of child abuse will be filed against British rocker Gary Glitter in a Vietnamese court on Friday, a provincial official said.

Police had been authorized to detain Glitter, 61, for four months in the southern resort town of Vung Tau before his trial, the official said on Thursday.

Glitter, whose real name is Paul Francis Gadd, has denied allegations he molested girls as young as 12. He has said he was just helping girls with their English.

Authorities have not given details about their investigation, but state-owned newspapers said this week police had identified 10 girls who admitted to having had sex with Glitter. One of the girls was 12 years old.

Bosnia To 'Beat' Hong Kong With Statue

Bruce Lee

Youths in the Bosnian city of Mostar said they were delighted they would beat Hong Kong to erect a statue honouring the late martial arts film legend Bruce Lee.

The statue is to be unveiled at the weekend in the southern city more famous for its 16th-century Ottoman bridge, which reopened last year after being destroyed during Bosnia's 1992-1995 war.

Lee was chosen as a hero that all people could relate to in a city that suffered widespread destruction during fierce fighting between Croats and Muslims during the Bosnian conflict.

Scientists Discover In Antarctica

Singing Iceberg

Scientists monitoring earth movements in Antarctica believe they have found a singing iceberg.

Sound waves from the iceberg had a frequency of around 0.5 hertz, too low to be heard by humans, but by playing them at higher speed the iceberg sounded like a swarm of bees or an orchestra warming up, the scientists said.

The German Alfred Wegener institute for polar and marine research published the results of its study, done in 2002, in Science magazine on Friday.

Between July and November 2002 researchers picked up acoustic signals of unprecedented clarity when recording seismic signals to measure earthquakes and tectonic movements on the Ekstroem ice shelf on Antarctica's South Atlantic coast.

Starts Disaster Planning Firm

Michael 'Brownie' Brown

Former FEMA Director Michael Brown, heavily criticized for his agency's slow response to Hurricane Katrina, is starting a disaster preparedness consulting firm to help clients avoid the sort of errors that cost him his job.

Brown said officials need to "take inventory" of what's going on in a disaster to be able to answer questions to avoid appearing unaware of how serious a situation is.

In the aftermath of the hurricane, critics complained about Brown's lack of formal emergency management experience and e-mails that later surfaced showed him as out of touch with the extent of the devastation.

Brown said companies already have expressed interested in his consulting business, Michael D. Brown LLC. He plans to run it from the Boulder area, where he lived before joining the Bush administration in 2001.
