Cheese Postie: the toasted cheese sandwich that arrives in the post (The Guardian)
To recap then: I get day-old ingredients for a needlessly unusual cheese sandwich designed by two blokes, and at a much higher price than I'd normally pay. I can't eat the sandwich when I like, or make another if I'm still hungry. I just have to wait until the post arrives.

Michael Simkins: Alas, poor Benedict! Fans filming isn't the only peril that could throw Cumberbatch (The Guardian)
Benedict Cumberbatch has pleaded for fans to stop distracting him after one filmed his 'To be or not to be' speech in Hamlet. But this is just one of the many new dangers today's actors face.

Paul Arthur: "Night and the City: In the Labyrinth" (The Guardian)
On film noir's unparalleled roster of resonant titles-Kiss of Death, Out of the Past, and Where Danger Lives, to name three-none is more emblematic or iconographically cogent than Night and the City. Juxtaposing two of noir's essential, virtually ontological qualities, the title of Jules Dassin's underrated 1950 elegy for a self-annihilating hustler reminds us…

Some art isn't just "bad" like a carton of sour milk is bad; it's curiously bad like the smell of a mosh pit of bank-tellers' attempted small talk. Its badness is its defining quality, and it becomes like a force of nature, inspiring other people to pursue their own strange creations that end up actually being pretty damn good. What the balls am I talking about? These balls, dear reader.

Trivia Question of the Day

What is the the longest-running syndicated game show in the United States?

Trivia Question from Yesterday

The diamond grading scale ranges from _(what letter of the alphabet)_, which is totally colorless, to Z, which is a pale yellow or brown color.

       D                                                      Source

Grading the normal color range refers to a grading scale for diamonds in the normal color range used by internationally recognized laboratories (GIA & IGI for example). The scale ranges from D which is totally colorless to Z which is a pale yellow or brown color. Brown diamonds darker than K color are usually described using their letter grade, and a descriptive phrase, for example M Faint Brown. Diamonds with more depth of color than Z color fall into the fancy color diamond range.        Source

Randall was first, and correct, with:
The diamond grading scale goes from D to Z

with "D" being perfectly colorless and Z being "somewhat the color of a squirrel turd that has been in the sun for a long time"

St. Louis

Cornel West

St. Louis County declared a state of emergency as prominent civil rights activists were arrested during a Black Lives Matter protest Monday.

Noted academic and activist Cornel West was the most well-known demonstrator taken into custody outside a St. Louis federal courthouse. Civil rights activists DeRay McKesson and Johnetta Elzie of We the Protesters were also among the dozens arrested.

Officers with the Federal Protective Service could be seen surveying the protesters, who had locked their arms together as they sat in solidarity on the steps of the Thomas F. Eagleton federal courthouse.

Before leaving for the protest, Elzie tweeted, "If I'm arrested today please know I'm not suicidal. I have plenty to live for. I did not resist, I'm just black."

Phoenix Pawn Shop

Bill Anderson

Thanks to a Phoenix pawn shop owner, county music singer-songwriter Bill Anderson has been reunited with his long lost acoustic guitar.

Anderson had a vintage Billy Grammer guitar when he broke into the music business more than 50 years ago.

He thinks the instrument was loaned to a music museum that went out of business and it had been missing ever since.

A customer pawned the guitar in April at Bell Road Pawn Shop in Phoenix.

British pop superstar Sam Smith has unveiled his life-size wax statue at Madame Tussauds in San Francisco and he is inviting fans to cozy up to it.

The Grammy Award winner visited the museum Monday and told fans "Feel free to touch my wax bum!"

After the reveal, Smith took several photographs of him kissing and licking the statue on the cheek and published them on his social media accounts.

The 23-year-old singer says he sat for about four hours with a team of Madame Tussauds artists but then lost weight and had to pose again.

Reception Photos Up For Auction

Royal Wedding

A dozen candid and unpublished photos of Prince Charles and Princess Diana's wedding reception are the featured items at a Boston-area auction scheduled for next month.

The photos were taken by Lord Patrick Lichfield, a relative who was the only photographer allowed to take informal photographs of the royal family and their guests when they returned to Buckingham Palace following the July 1981 wedding.

Six of the photos depict Princess Diana in her wedding dress with members of her own family as well as Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Princess Margaret and Prince Andrew. In some, Diana is holding 5-year-old Clementine Hambro, her youngest bridesmaid.

The photos were left out of Charles and Diana's wedding album.

Vegas Agency Votes To Demolish

Riviera Casino-Hotel

It wasn't a matter of if but when the 60-year-old Riviera casino-hotel on the Las Vegas Strip would come crashing down. Its new owner voted Tuesday to do it sooner rather than later.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority decided to demolish the structure and pave over the land rather than let it sit vacant for years while the agency seeks the money needed to expand its convention center to the site.

The authority bought the Riviera for $182.5 million plus $8.5 million in transaction costs in February. It expects to spend $2.3 billion to expand the Las Vegas Convention Center to the Las Vegas Strip.

Any demolition wouldn't happen for at least six months. How the building will be demolished hasn't been decided, but the agency's contractor, Terry Miller with Cordell Corp., told the board he expects it will require an implosion as well as tearing it down.

4-Day Sentence In 12-Hour Stints

Speck Mellencamp

A judge will allow a son of rock star John Mellencamp to serve a four-day jail sentence for battery in 12-hour stints because the 20-year-old suffers from a panic disorder.

Speck Mellencamp will be incarcerated at the Monroe County Jail from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Aug. 10-13 and Aug. 18-21 so a health care professional is on duty while he's behind bars, The Herald-Times reported Tuesday (http://bit.ly/1UB92ib ).

Mellencamp's attorney, Thomas Farlow, requested the arrangement because the jail has nurses to attend to inmates only from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Having his client incarcerated only within those hours reduces "the risk that he will suffer a debilitating panic attack," Farlow said.

Mellencamp received the four-day sentence after he and older brother Hud pleaded guilty in April to a misdemeanor battery charge stemming from a July 2013 altercation. The brothers allegedly punched and kicked a 19-year-old man in Bloomington who they believed had hit Speck Mellencamp.

'Living Fossils'

Sturgeon

Europe's last wild sturgeons got a rare boost this summer when the conservationist group WWF Bulgaria released more than 50,000 babies of these prehistoric fish into the lower Danube, marking the end of a three-year project co-funded by the European Union.

These so-called giant "living fossils" date back to the time of the dinosaurs but are now teetering on the brink of extinction.

Six varieties of sturgeons once lived in the Danube, the expert said. Now only four of these species are left.

The lower part of the river in Bulgaria and neighbouring Romania is home to the EU's last still viable populations of sturgeons, which live mostly in the Black sea but swim upriver to spawn.

Extensive poaching for the sturgeons' tasty meat and expensive caviar has led to their dwindling stocks, though local fisherman Rumen Ivanov insisted he had not heard of anybody catching a sturgeon "in ages".

Replica Frigate Returns To France

The Hermione

A replica of the French frigate that transported General Lafayette to America in 1780 to rally US rebels battling for independence arrived back in France on Monday after a four-month Atlantic voyage.

The Hermione and its 80-strong crew made a majestic entrance into the port of Brest in northwestern France, accompanied by a fleet of tall ships and a modern navy frigate, and met by a cheering crowd on the quay.

It took almost two decades and $32 million (25 million euros) to build the exact replica of the 1,200-tonne, three-masted ship, using only 18th century shipbuilding techniques.

The Hermione finally set sail in April, waved off by President Francois Hollande, retracing Lafayette's 3,700-mile (6,000-kilometre) journey across the Atlantic and calling at more than a dozen stops along the eastern coast of the United States and Canada.

A crate of Cognac was also transported onboard -- as on Lafayette's original ship -- and auctioned off for charity at Mount Vernon, once home to the first US president, George Washington.

Welcome!

You have reached the Home page of BartCop Entertainment.

Do you have something to say?
Anything that increased your blood pressure, or, even better, amused or entertained?

Do you have a great album no one's heard?
How about a favorite TV show, movie, book, play, cartoon, or legal amusement?
A popular artist that just plain pisses you off?
A box set the whole world should own?
Vile, filthy rumors about Republican hypocrites?

Just plain vile, filthy rumors?

In other words, submissions are welcome.
