Steven Soderbergh's "Bubble" approaches with awe and caution the rhythms of ordinary life itself. He tells the stories of three Ohio factory workers who have been cornered by life. Re: Haiku

Marty;

You've GOT to have two different catagories of winner. One coming from the human perspective, and one coming from a dog's point of view.

However;
In that Haiku fundamentally displays a poet's talent to compose the emotional empact of a "War-and-Peace" sized novel in only 17 syllables, for the human winner, I must leave that choice to the judge(s ... ).

For the dog's view, so far, - xo Diane has shown absolute brilliance.

Ball ball ball ball ball

Ball ball ball ball ball ball ball

Ball ball ball ball ball

I could only remotely improve on such expression as follows:

ball ball ball ball jump

ball ball ball ball lunge pant pant

dangit where's my treat

Of course, - xo D's seeing it from the "amatuer" dog's perspective, I'm looking more through the eyes of a professional hound.

DanD

Thanks, Dan!

Considers Challenging Feinstein

Cindy Sheehan

Cindy Sheehan, the peace activist who set up camp near resident Bush's Texas ranch last summer, said Saturday she is considering running against Sen. Dianne Feinstein to protest what she called the California lawmaker's support for the war in Iraq.

"She voted for the war. She continues to vote for the funding. She won't call for an immediate withdrawal of the troops," Sheehan told The Associated Press in an interview while attending the World Social Forum in Venezuela along with thousands of other anti-war and anti-globalization activists.

She said she would decide whether to run after talking with her three other adult children. The Democratic primary will be held in June, and candidates must submit their statements for the voter guide by Feb. 14.

Sheehan, 48, who lives in Berkeley, Calif., said she would head to Washington on Sunday for protests against Bush's State of the Union address on Monday, and then return to California to discuss her idea of running against Feinstein with her son and two daughters.

Sought to Protect Brand

Oprah Winfrey

Analysts say that when Oprah Winfrey confronted disgraced author James Frey on her show Thursday, her motive wasn't only about bringing the truth to light, it was about protecting that brand.

Winfrey's scolding of Frey came just two weeks after she called in to defend him when he appeared on CNN's "Larry King Live" show.

But at least one media watcher said he felt that Winfrey's public about-face on Frey was too little, too late.

"Oprah has been in such a unique position that it takes more than just her performance (Thursday) to undo the damage that she did with Frey's book," said Paul Levinson, chair of the Department of Communication and Media Studies at Fordham University in New York.

"When the story broke, she, again, chose to support Frey," Levinson said. "Loyalty is important, but she should have loyalty to her viewers and to the people who look up to her. That's more important than loyalty to this author."

Agrees to Tour China

San Francisco Symphony

San Francisco Symphony musicians agreed Friday to play in China next month despite a labor dispute that threatened to cancel the tour, the symphony and union members said.

The musician's union had said they wouldn't tour if a new three-year contract wasn't reached, but relented after meeting with management, said David Schoenbrun, president of Musicians Union Local 6.

While no contract was approved, the union said management has moved toward paying the musicians an acceptable rate and that the two sides are close to an agreement.

The tour starts Feb. 6 and includes three performances at the Hong Kong Arts Festival, a concert in Shanghai and a day of educational programs at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.

A banner hangs from an apartment building near the venue of the annual World Social Forum in Caracas January 28, 2006. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said on Friday Washington planned to brand Venezuela a sponsor of terrorism as he used the World Social Forum to vent against U.S. imperialism and the Iraq war. The socialist leader has become one of U.S. resident George W. Bush's fiercest critics after putting his self-styled revolution at the heart of regional opposition to Washington's free-market proposals for South America.

Superfine Wool

Operatic Sheep

Pampered Australian merino sheep who listen to opera have again produced a bale of the world's finest wool, matching the record set by the flock last year.

Italian designer Loro Piana said the 93 kg (205 lb) bale measured 11.8 microns, compared with the average Australian merino wool which measures 20-21 microns. Superfine wool is defined as 19.5 microns or finer per strand. A micron measures one millionth of a meter.

Loro Piana said it bought the bale from the Highlander Partnership, a fine-wool project in the Snowy Mountains region of New South Wales state, for A$232,500 ($174,800) or A$2,500 a kilogram -- 357 times the normal market price for wool.

The special flock is kept mostly indoors in small groups and listens to music, including Italian opera and recordings of Italian singer Andrea Bocelli.

Pat Robertson's Pawns

Pharmacists

Four pharmacists who refused to sign a pledge promising to dispense the morning-after birth-control pill sued Walgreen drug stores Friday, alleging they were illegally fired.

The lawsuits accuse Walgreen Co. of violating the Illinois Health Care Right of Conscience Act. The pharmacists were being represented by the American Center for Law and Justice, a public very special-interest group founded by televangelist Pat Robertson.

A new state rule requires pharmacies that sell federally approved contraceptives to fill prescriptions for emergency birth control "without delay" if they have the medication in stock. The rule is being challenged in federal court.

In response to the rule, Deerfield-based Walgreen asked pharmacists to pledge in writing that they would fill prescriptions for contraceptives such as the morning-after pill. The plaintiffs were suspended indefinitely without pay when they refused to sign the pledge in November.

Registered Republican

'God'

One registered Republican won't be able to vote in the next election unless he appears at a Berks County Elections Board to explain the signature on his registration form.

The man is registered as Paul S. Sewell, Elections Director Deborah M. Olivieri said, but his form is signed "God."

County Solicitor Alan S. Miller said Sewell claims his "God" signature is merely a legal mark like the "X" used by people who are illiterate.

Sewell said he thinks his designated mark is legal. "PennDOT accepted it on my driver's license. I have a credit card with it," he said. "It shouldn't be a problem."

Town Changes Name

Steeler, Pennsylvania

Just to make sure there's no confusion about which team they are supporting in the Super Bowl XL, the mayor and council voted unanimously to change Washington's name.

Welcome to Steeler, Pennsylvania.

The name change for the city of about 15,000 people south of Pittsburgh will last through Feb. 5, the day of the football game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Seattle Seahawks in Detroit.

Anyone sending bills, cards or letters should continue addressing them to Washington, however, because the name change is cosmetic and not recognized by the U.S. Postal Service.

NASA Tries To Muzzle

Climate Expert

NASA's top climate scientist said the Bush administration has tried to stop him from speaking out since he gave a lecture in December calling for prompt reductions in emissions of greenhouse gases, The New York Times said on Saturday.

In an interview with the newspaper, James Hansen, director of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, said that officials at the space agency's headquarters had ordered the public affairs staff to review his lectures, papers, postings on the Goddard Web site and requests for interviews from journalists.

"They feel their job is to be this censor of information going out to the public," the Times quoted Hansen as saying, adding that the scientist planned to ignore the new restrictions.

Hansen, a physicist who joined the space agency in 1967, is an authority on climate who directs efforts to simulate the global climate on computers at Manhattan's Goddard Institute.
